Refund & Cancellation Policy

How to cancel, what happens to your access, and when we refund. Part of the agreement between you and OptimusX Group (Pty) Ltd.

Effective date: 21 August 2026 · Last updated: 21 August 2026

What you are buying

Overcome sells a recurring digital subscription. There are no physical goods, nothing is shipped, and there is nothing to return.

Overcome is a recovery-support and journalling application published by OptimusX Group (Pty) Ltd, registration number 2026/657042/07, in the Republic of South Africa. Payments are processed by Paystack in South African Rand (ZAR). Current prices are shown on our pricing page and in the app before you are charged anything.

  • Individuals subscribe to Plus, monthly or annually, and are charged automatically each period until they cancel.
  • Coaches are billed monthly for a tier fee plus a rate for each client on their roster, calculated at the time each invoice is issued.
  • A coach may choose to sponsor a client, in which case that client's line appears on the coach's invoice and the client pays nothing. Otherwise the client is charged their own line directly.
  • There is a free tier that costs nothing and requires no card.

Cancelling

You can cancel yourself, at any time, from Settings → Subscription in the app. You do not need to email us, phone us or give a reason, and there is no cancellation fee.

  • Cancelling stops the next renewal. Your card is not charged again.
  • You keep everything you have paid for. Your access continues to the end of the billing period you have already paid for, and only then returns to the free tier. Cancelling on day 2 of a month you have paid for does not take the remaining 28 days away.
  • Your data is not deleted. Cancelling changes what the app offers you; it does not touch anything you have recorded. If you want your data deleted, that is a separate, deliberate action — Settings → Delete account.
  • Deleting the app from your phone is not cancelling. The subscription continues until you cancel it in the app.
  • Coaches: cancelling stops future invoices. An invoice already issued for a period you have used remains payable.

If our payment provider is unreachable at the moment you cancel, we record the cancellation on our side anyway and reconcile it afterwards. We will not leave you in a subscription because a gateway was unwell.

Free trials

  • Where a free trial is offered, its length and terms are shown before you start it. One trial per person.
  • A trial takes a card up front. To prove the card is valid we charge a small verification amount — R1.00 — and refund it immediately and automatically. It is not a payment for the trial, and you should see it reversed on your statement.
  • Unless you cancel before the trial ends, it converts into a paid subscription and your card is charged the price shown when you started.
  • Cancel at any point during the trial and you are not charged at all.

If a payment fails

A failed renewal does not lock you out. We would rather carry somebody for a few days than cut off a person in recovery because a card expired over a weekend.

  • Your subscription is marked past due, and we tell you.
  • Our payment provider retries the charge over the following days.
  • Your paid access continues for a grace period of 3 days after the end of the period you had paid for.
  • If the payment succeeds during that window, nothing changes and the subscription simply carries on.
  • If it has not succeeded by the end of the grace period, the account returns to the free tier. Nothing you recorded is deleted, and paid features come back as soon as a payment goes through.
  • If you are a client whose coach sponsors you, and it is your coach's payment that failed, you get the same 3-day grace before returning to the free tier. You are never cut off the moment somebody else's card fails.

Returning to the free tier is not being locked out. The free tier keeps your counter, your daily check-in, your recovery score, the urge tool, the community and the crisis resources — permanently, and at no cost.

Refunds

We would rather be asked than have someone quietly resent a charge. Write to overcome@optimusx.co.za from the address on your account, tell us what happened, and we will reply within 5 business days and resolve it within 10.

Where we refund

  • A duplicate or incorrect charge: refunded in full, always. Tell us and we will fix it.
  • A charge after you cancelled: refunded in full.
  • A charge you did not authorise: refunded in full, and we will help you secure the account.
  • The card-verification amount taken to start a trial: refunded automatically, without you asking.
  • A material fault that made the paid features unusable for a meaningful part of your billing period, which we could not put right: refunded pro rata for that period.
  • A feature you were paying for that we removed or substantially reduced: pro rata for the unused portion, and you may cancel.
  • Where we terminate your account for a reason other than your breach of the Terms: pro rata for the unused portion.

Where we do not refund

  • Simply changing your mind part-way through a period you have used. Cancel instead — you keep access to the end of it and are not charged again.
  • Periods you have already used, on either a monthly or an annual plan.
  • Not having used the app during a period you were subscribed for.
  • An invoice a coach has already been issued for a month their clients had access.

Approved refunds are returned to the card that was charged, through Paystack. We do not refund to a different card, and we cannot pay a refund in cash or as account credit. How quickly it appears is your bank's decision rather than ours — usually 5 to 10 business days after we process it.

Your rights under South African law

Nothing in this policy limits any right you have that cannot lawfully be excluded.

  • Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008, section 16: where it applies to a transaction, you may cancel within 5 business days of concluding it and receive a full refund. Overcome is bought directly in the app rather than through direct marketing, so this most often does not apply — but where it does, we honour it.
  • Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 25 of 2002, section 44: a 7-day cooling-off right applies to certain electronic transactions. Where it applies to your purchase, we honour it in full.
  • Consumer Protection Act section 14: where a fixed-term agreement applies to you, you may cancel it on 20 business days' notice, and we may charge a reasonable cancellation penalty as that section permits.
  • If you are a consumer in the European Union or the United Kingdom, your statutory withdrawal rights apply in addition to everything above.

If we cannot resolve a complaint between us, you may take it to the National Consumer Commission of South Africa, or to the consumer authority or ombud for the country where you live.

Chargebacks

Please contact us before asking your bank to reverse a charge. A chargeback costs us a fee and takes weeks to resolve, and almost everything one is raised for — a duplicate charge, a charge after cancelling, a card you did not recognise on a statement — we will simply refund if you ask. We will not close or restrict an account for asking for a refund.
