How Overcome works

Overcome takes about four minutes to set up and about ninety seconds a day after that. It is built to be opened on the worst day, not just the good ones.

Tell it what you are working on

Pick what you are tracking and when you started. Choose more than one if that is the truth of it. This is what you want to work on — it is not a diagnosis, and Overcome does not assess you or decide anything about your health.

Check in once a day

Seven sliders and a daily commitment. It takes under a minute and it is the engine for everything else — your recovery score, your trends, and the insights that need real data behind them before they will say anything at all.

Use it in the moment

When a craving arrives, open the urge tool rather than fighting it alone for an hour. Name the intensity, ride the wave with the timer, pick a grounding technique, and log how it went. That log is what later turns into a pattern you can act on.

Write when it helps

Free write, or answer a workbook prompt. Every entry is saved with a short supportive summary so a month of writing is something you can actually look back through.

Bring someone in, if you want to

Connect a coach and choose exactly what they can see. Join the community under an alias. Save a trusted contact. All of it optional, all of it reversible.

Where AI fits, and where it does not

Overcome uses Google’s Gemini to write your weekly reflection, summarise a journal entry, and answer you in the companion chat. That means the text of a journal entry, and what you type to the companion, is sent to Google to produce that output. We use the paid Gemini API under terms that do not allow your content to train their models, and our Privacy Policy sets out exactly what is sent and when.

  • It is a text generator, not a clinician. It does not diagnose, assess or treat.
  • It only ever works from figures your own data actually supports — it is instructed never to invent one.
  • It can be wrong, and it is a prompt for your own reflection rather than a finding about you.
  • You can use Overcome fully without it: skip the companion, and keep journal sharing off.

What Overcome is not

Overcome is not medical care. It does not diagnose, treat or prevent any condition, it is not therapy, and it is not a substitute for professional help. Choosing what you want to work on is not a diagnosis, and the recovery score is a self-tracking number, not a clinical measurement.

It is not a crisis service. Nobody is watching your entries in real time and the app cannot summon help. If you are in immediate danger or thinking about harming yourself, contact your local emergency number or a crisis line now.

Withdrawal can be dangerous. Withdrawal from alcohol and from some other substances can be medically serious. Speak to a health professional before you stop or change your use.
